Education and Background

Dr. Assar has been in private practice since 1995. He is board certified in pediatrics and adult internal medicine and cardiology. He received his Bachelor of Science and his Master of Science both in Biology from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. He received his M.D. from Universidad Mundial School of Medicine in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He did his general pediatrics and internal medicine residencies, and cardiology and interventional cardiovascular fellowships, at Maimonides Medical Center and State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn, New York. During his tenure there, he was also given Best Resident award and was selected as Chief Resident. Dr. Assar is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, and American Medical Association. He speaks three languages: English, Persian, and Spanish. Dr. Assar is originally from Iran.

His areas of interest are Percutaneous (through blood vessels and non-surgical) interventions for coronary arteries, Peripheral Vasculature, including carotid arteries, as well as closure of heart defects (hole in the heart). He is also involved in medical teaching of interns, residents, and cardiology fellows at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital.

Dr. Assar has participated in several high-profile research protocols. To name a few:
